Katherine Heatley (right) and Lynley Baker (left) entered the arduous Cape Epic race on the 24th of March 2007. An eight day race of 900kms of hard mountain bike racing starting from Knysna and ending in Lourensford, South Africa. The rules were to race as a team of two and never be further apart than two minutes during the entire race. There were 535 teams of two.
“As this race is held in the remote and wild country side of South Africa there was an element of danger as wild animals roamed the areas we were racing,” says Katherine.”For this reason, it was our aim to be at the front of the pack so we were less likely to be picked off by predators!” Both Lynley and Katherine trained hard for 7 months to guarantee the stamina and strength required to survive the gruelling Cape Epic race.
What a tremendous fund-raising effort for the Melanoma Foundation!
