Receiving a diagnosis of melanoma can be frightening. You are likely to have many questions about melanoma and what will happen next. Remember the best source of information is your own doctor, as your case is unique. Ask questions and preferably take someone with you when you visit the doctor, to help listen and maybe take notes.

So what do you do if you have just been diagnosed with melanoma?

First - take a breath ... and read the following ...

  1. You have been given a diagnosis - not a death sentence
  2. Melanoma survival statistics describe a group of similar patients ... but they may have nothing to do with you chance of survival.
  3. Often for melanoma treatment, there is no single answer.
  4. It's important to be an active participant in your treatment (not a passive recipient.)
