Pele of One Life Photography is working with the Melanoma Foundation on a very special exhibition. The plan is to hold a photographic exhibition to raise awareness of melanoma. Pele is looking for 25 people willing to participate in this special project. The following are Pele's own words. Click on the thumbnail at right to download and print the full invitation.
“It’s been two years for me since I found out that I had melanoma.
I was cuddling my 3 month old baby boy when my doctor told me that my life as I know it, would be changed forever. It’s like I have been living in a dark tunnel ever since!
Finally, I have accepted that while I’m well, and while I wake each new day, I can’t give up. I must stand up and fight with all that is within me to raise awareness in NZ of this killer disease.
I have been thinking how I can use my passion for photography to raise awareness, and came up with the idea of a photo exhibition that will showcase the ‘Scar’. The reason for using the idea of the scar is because it reminds me that I have hope. My doctors have done their best to cut this melanoma out of me, to give me a chance to live! Every melanoma patient has scar/s inside and out.
I am looking for 25 people who will be brave enough to let me photograph them bearing their scar/s, and who would be happy to share their story to inspire and help others. These stories may be published to form a book at a later date. The many details of the exhibition, its style, the location and dates, are yet to be decided, but in the meantime I am collecting the names of people who would like to be part of this special project. This is a purely voluntary thing. I promise the photos will be my best work!
