Awareness advocate takes on a new challenge

Tuesday January 24, 2012

On Feb 7th Jeremy Burfoot will attempt to break two "jetski" world records as part of his mission to raise melanoma awareness.

He's leading an optimistic attempt on the World 1000km (Time) and 6 hour (Distance) PWC (Jetski) records on Lake Karapiro. The current records stand at : 10hrs 9min for 1000km and 507.2km in six hours.

Come down to the lake between 7am and 5pm on Tuesday 7th and lend some encouragement. The Melanoma Foundation will be there too. Or check out Jeremy's PWC World Record Attempts Facebook page and give it the big thumbs up.

Jeremy is a 747 Qantas Pilot who says he might not be alive today if his own melanoma hadn't been caught early. Diagnosed in 2005, Jeremy does whatever he can to promote early detection. "It seems that over 50s males are most at risk for contracting melanoma so check out your Dad's/Hubbys and if there are suspicious moles or lesions get them checked out by a skin specialist. And check yourself out while you're at it!"
