Wear a Scar, Save a Life

Celebrities help fight melanoma

Wear a Scar, Save a Life got people talking in April. This successful awareness campaign was based around the idea of early detection of melanoma being critically important. The message on the box was: ‘Melanoma is a deadly skin cancer that can strike at any age. If detected early enough, all you’ll be left with is a scar.’ Another goal was also to raise funds to support people affected by melanoma through the sale of removable scar tattoos. The reverse of the tattoo package carried prevention and detection advice.

The Melanoma Foundation is grateful to the well known New Zealanders who were photographed wearing the tattoos: Monty Betham, Hollie Smith, Chris Sisarich, Danielle Hayes, Shavaughn Ruakere, Peter Urlich, Nick Dwyer, Mike Havoc, Lance Hohaia, Bernice Mene, Hayley Holt, Amber Peebles, Maggie Barry, A J Matthews and Toni Marsh.

We also particularly thank photographer Jane Ussher, One Design, Baldwin Boyle Group, Emma Wilkinson, and One Click for making it all happen. We thank the Wear a Scar retail sponsors BNZ, Hallensteins, Les Mills Gyms and Music Works, and all the cafes and workplaces who put a box on their counter.
Removable tattoos are still available for purchase online.
